One Full Week
(The plan was to post this yesterday, but the computer went funny on me, so...)
Hello! Today marks the end of my first full week at PCC! Some of you might be wondering how I've been doing, so I'm going to tell you the latest and greatest!
First day I arrived I wandered the campus with my mom and attempt to make contact with the natives. They were not at all unfriendly, but I was still scared as a jack-rabbit. The next day, when I registered, I met Amber. She is a senior and my suite-mate. (This means she is in the room that shares a bathroom with our room.) Amber has proven to be a very helpful source of information. One day she described to me the "freshman look" which basically is the equivalent of a frightened rabbit. I naturally recognized this description as my own.
I didn't really begin to feel comfortable until I met Rebeckah, the genius from two doors down. She is only 16, but is double majoring in Elementary Education and Music Performance, and is in the work assistance program, 11 hours! Talk about hard-core! We've become pretty good friends, and she's in my dorm room so much that people have started mistaking her for my roommate! ^_^
Speaking of roommates, mine are Esperanza (Or Espi) and Audrey. Espi's almost a senior, and Audrey is a senior. Neither of them snore, which is a real blessing. They're both really fun people to be around and I really do enjoy my down-time in the dorm room.
I am also in the work assistance program. I work at the print shop in Bindery. This means that typically I am stacking papers in a machine to be put together to make the A-Beka textbooks. If the trays or "pockets" I am working on run out of paper, I stack the wrong papers, or too many papers, then the whole machine stops. It's not easy work, but with God's help I am getting better.
A couple people I work with. Sharon: for those of you who went to Groveport and know Grace (or Virginia) she is like the girl's twin! She's nutty and fun. There's also Penny. She's from Mississippi and she has the neatest accent! She likes to talk about "Yankees" which is really funny since I am one. ^_^ It's interesting to hear the stereotypes about us "Yanks" ^_^
There's a guy who works in the print shop, but not in my area. His name is Corey. He's cute, and really nice. I'd like to get to know him better, as a friend, but since Greek Rush, I haven't seen him an incredible lot.
Oh yeah, Greek Rush. That's where we pick our Collegians! Rebeckah and I ended up picking the same collegians, and we were among the first to turn in our cards, but we ended up with the third choice on our list. We're Pirates! Which isn't so bad. They have an ensemble (which I'm joining) and they do skits. Penny is also a Pirate, and I met another Speech Communications major by the name of Rachel. She's neat! ^_^
Now, about classes. I'm taking New Testament Survey 101 with Mr. Hoeflinger. He's pretty cool. Then there's English 101 with Ms. Allnutt. She's rather serious for someone named Allnutt. As you guys probably know, if I were named Allnutt, I would be taking full advantage of its hilarity, but not everyone is like me, and I can't expect them to be so. For Math I have Mr. Bohlman. He's the sort of teacher who likes to chase rabbits when giving illustrations. ^_^ For Speech Lab I have Mr. Moline. He's pretty cool. Definitely a good Speech teacher. Those are my Monday/Wednesday classes. On Tuesday/Thursday I have History with Mr. Zila. He is amazing! For those of you who had him, think Mr. Pompey! ^_^ He is exciting and really makes history interesting! ^_^ Then, for Swimming and Bowling I have Ms. Chappell. She's very patient with me. I'm not exactly the best swimmer in the world. I am trying though. On Friday I have most of my Monday/Wednesday classes except for Speech Lab and New Testament Survey, and adding Speech Lecture, which is indeed different from Speech Lab. I work 14 1/2 hours each week. Yes that's more than my genius friend, but I'm not double majoring, now am I? ^_^
During Chapel I sit next to a Sophomore guy named Caleb. He's pretty cool. The first day we had assigned seats in Chapel he mentioned to me at a very random moment that his Senior girlfriend was probably sitting in the balcony. I find this amusing since I have absolutely no romantic interest in him. I mean, he's cute, but I don't want to date him or anything like that. I mention this only because I used to do the same thing when I was dating Charlie, that is, point out to every guy I met that I had a boyfriend. Anyway, Caleb's pretty cool. We have to share a Hymnal since they only put one in every other seat. Kind of a reminder that I'm not at Fellowship right now. ~sigh~
Oh, speaking of Hymnals, on Sunday and Wednesday Church services Mr. Mosely leads music. What's funny is that he dramatically proclaims the number in the hymnal "Turn to number Three Hundred and Thirty-five; Victory In Jesus!" and then, when we're done singing, he mouths, mouths the words "Thank you." and then gestures for us to sit down. ^_^
Some of you might be interested to know that I auditioned for The Miracle Worker. I prayed and prayed that God would make sure I was where he wanted me, and basically that he wouldn't allow me to overload my schedule. So guess what? I went to check the Fine Arts board, and I have a part! I am a Freshman with a speaking role! Praise God! He really has blessed me already this year. So many blessings, I think I would be up all night if I tried to count them. ^_^
Before auditions I met this guy named Paul. He's a Sophomore, Speech Communications major. Funny guy. I hope I get to see him around more often. Apparently he knows one of my roommate's best friends. He tried out too, but didn't make it. My guess is that it was due to scheduling issues.
Anyway, things are great, all my Christian friends out there, pray for me as I continue to adjust, and frequently become home-sick.
Missing you all,
Jenny
FOOD!!!
As many of you know, the Varsity and Four Winds buffets are included in tuition. Three times a day you can visit these delictable all you can eat lines and consume to your hearts content! Of course, a lot of things are the same every time you go through, so to fend off food boredom, one must get creative. Here are a couple of concoctions I have found I can make by going through multiple lines.
The Chicken Parm Sandwich:
This is for when I really want some Chicken Parmesan. Not as good as Mom's, but it's definitely satisfactory.
Four Winds version;
Line 7, Bun and Chicken Pattie
Line 1 or 4, Marinara Sauce and Parmesan shake cheese
Varsity version;
Chicken Tenders line, Chicken Tenders (about 2)
Deli Line, Hamburger bun
Pasta Line, Marinara Sauce and shake cheese
Just put it all together in a sandwich, and enjoy! ^_^
Buffalo Wild Wings
A small meal for when I crave some B-dubs
(Only availiable at Varsity)
Chicken Tenders line, Chicken Tenders, Hot Wing Sauce, and Potato Wedge Fries
Salad Bar, Ranch, Cheese, and Bacon
Put the Cheese and Bacon on the fries and stick in the microwave for one minute. Hot wing sauce goes on the chicken Tenders. Ranch is for dipping.
